It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas

It has been snowing on and off for the past few days. In fact, yesterday, it snowed pretty much just on our street! Once I got past our road which had about a half inch on it, there was no snow falling on the way to the kids' schools. Although we don't have a ton of accumulation, what we do have is sticking around because it is so ridiculously and uncharacteristically cold (-7C this morning). Some of what you see above and below is actual snow, but some is also hoarfrost which I can't say we have to this extent in Maryland. There was a condition called freezing fog last night. It hung like a blanket and loomed all over our side of town.
Here is a definition from Wikipedia: "Freezing fog occurs when liquid fog droplets freeze to surfaces, forming white soft or hard rime. This is very common on mountain tops which are exposed to low clouds. It is equivalent to freezing rain, and essentially the same as the ice that forms inside a freezer which is not of the 'frostless' or 'frost-free' type (hmmm, like my dorm-sized fridge here, perhaps?). The term 'freezing fog' may also refer to fog where water vapor is super-cooled filling the air with small ice crystals similar to very light snow. It seems to make the fog 'tangible', as if one could 'grab a handful'."
Due to the freezing fog, we have some awesome hoarfrost action going on in and around our park. It really is gorgeous, but I wish it would occur without the freezing temperatures.

Oh, and it even smells like December outside.
