That's how much snow it takes to close an English airport and completely bring the country to a standstill. FOUR INCHES!!!! It is laughable. Whilst watching the BBC newscast, a few things were discussed between Craig & I:

1. The mayor of Chicago was sacked for not being able to deal with 20 INCHES of snow which is like 5x as much snow here right now.

2. There were no reporters actually inside the airport. The only FOUR photos repeatedly shown over and over were from travellers who had sent them to the BBC via phones. We think reporters aren't actually allowed inside the airport. We found that quite strange.

3. The spokesman who was giving a statement (outside of the airport) specifically stated that they are trying very hard to get international flights out of Heathrow, including four flights to America. I know they want those Americans out of the country because here's what I think: Americans don't 'stay calm and carry on' nor do they wait patiently. Americans want answers. Americans want someone's head on a plate. Americans are dissenters and complain outwardly and loudly therefore Americans need to go.

4. The English need to realize that it does snow here and they need to invest in snow removal equipment. Full stop.

Now back to our little town. We probably have about six inches of snow on the ground. Our streets are pure ice. I am not exaggerating. It is an ice skating rink. Thick ice. While the town itself probably can't afford to invest in full-scale snow removal equipment, Craig and I need to get on the bandwagon and get off of our duffs and purchase a snow shovel. It's been three winters and we could have used one each winter, but we keep telling ourselves, "This won't happen again...". Yet, it does. Today, Craig raked the driveway, then swept. God forbid you clear the sidewalk in front of your house. It just doesn't happen. Anywhere. For a "non-litiginous society" (someone actually said that to me in comparison to the US), they sure are scared of being sued for responsibly clearing the sidewalk.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that the mayhem at the airport and on the roads has died down by Thursday morning. We have a plane to catch. If it departs from England, we are guaranteed that snow will not hamper our arrival at our destination.
